It was an easy choice for my brothers and me to donate funds to the Westby Norse Fund as a way to memorialize our parents. Both of our parents were very supportive of education in general and of us to further our education endeavors, whether in Westby High School or at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and beyond. What better way could we honor them than establishing a perpetual scholarship in their names through the Westby Norse Fund! Thus, they are still supporting education of Westby Area students long after their passing.

The Red and Grace Nelson Memorial Scholarship was created thanks to the generosity of family and friends at the time of their passing. It was a natural decision for our family to support WAHS graduates through the Norse Fund as my parents enjoyed the community and the youth of Westby, the wide array of opportunities the district provided in a small town, and of course, because they appreciated so much, the music in the community and especially in our school system. This Norse Fund-endowed scholarship provides a financial award to a Westby graduate that will be pursuing music in some manner in a college setting.

Martha and I are both graduates of Westby High School and we have never left the area. We both owe a lot of what we have today, both personally and professionally, to our years at WHS and being part of our local community. Supporting the Westby Norse Fund is one way we can support great graduates to further their education and hopefully find their way back to this area to make them even better than they are today.
